The palm of your hand is approximately 3 ounces of protein (chicken, fish, beef, pork, poultry etc). A closed fist is approximately a cup serving size (rice, salads, cereals, fruits etc). The tip of your thumb is approximately a tablespoon serving size (mayonnaise, peanut butter, salad dressing etc). A cupped hand is approximately half cup serving size (rice, pasta, potatoes, ice cream etc).
