Why is Fiber so Important?

Fibre is a doer that gets you moving on the inside and should be the number one tool in your bag of healthy habits to include in your daily routine.

The definition of dietary fiber is that it is a non-digestible carbohydrate found in foods.

It’s split into two broad categories based on its water solubility:

  1. Soluble fiber: dissolves in water and can be metabolized by the “good” bacteria in the gut.

  2. Insoluble fiber: does not dissolve in water.

Fiber has several functions in the body and it is important to understand some of the great benefits from including it in your daily diet. Not all fibres are the same or used by your body the same, therefore knowing what foods (fruit, veggies and grains) to eat is needed to be known.

Fermentable fibers are the friendly gut bacteria that are able to be digested (ferment) and use as fuel. These types of fibres are extremely important for living a healthy life. Some examples of these types of fibres are bean, chickpeas, lentils and peanuts.

Below are some of the benefits of having enough fibre in your daily diet:

🍀 Lowers cholesterol.

🍀 Improves gut health.

🍀 Helps control blood sugars.

🍀 Helps with weight loss.

🍀 Reduce constipation.

🍀 Reduce the chance of getting colorectal cancer.
